Book cover design - Lynn Austin

This new book by the author Lynn Austin and is called Skyggejagt/Chasing Shadows.

The setting is during the 2nd World War in The Netherlands (mostly Leiden) and tells the story of three women - a mother and her daughter, and a young jewish woman.

The brief was to enliven this story, and the design had to have a double exposure (and hereby show the connection to the other books in Danish from this author).

For this task I used Photoshop and had quite a lot of layers. Therefore, I needed an eye for detail, thoroughness and to work structured by naming the layers etc.

The double exposure of the young woman shows a dutch mill and the city gate of Leiden. Behind her, the war is raging and the grey cloud reaches around to the back of the book. The red color is picked from her scarf and gives drama in the middle of all the grey/sepia colors. As the background, I placed old paper texture to further emphasize that we are back in time.
